CBD oil helps to alleviate stress and inflammation and other symptoms associated with digestive disorders
“CBD has antioxidant and other pharmacological effects that are potentially beneficial for the inflamed gut. 337 A number of studies over the past decade have demonstrated the chemical messengers and endocannabinoid receptors involved in modulating and balancing the GI system. Specifically, FAAH is an enzyme crucially involved in the modulation of intestinal physiology through anandamide and other endocannabinoids. 338 CBD specifically has been shown to stimulate the endocannabinoid system by blocking the FAAH enzyme responsible for breaking down anandamide, thereby increasing its availability. A 2016 study was the first to show in the lab that inhibiting FAAH may suppress colitis by reducing activated T cells and inflammatory response in the colon. 339 “These processes might link stress with abdominal pain,” researchers wrote that year.”
“The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is also involved centrally in the manifestation of stress, and endocannabinoid signaling reduces the activity of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal pathways via actions in specific brain regions, notably the prefrontal cortex, amygdala, and hypothalamus. Agents that modulate the ECS are in early stages of development for treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. Increasing our understanding of the ECS will greatly advance our knowledge of interactions between the brain and gut and could lead to new treatments for gastrointestinal disorders.”
